Happy New Year everyone! I hope you had a lovely holiday season, spent some time relaxing with friends and family and indulged in your favourite holiday treats! Now that it is January, I am sure many of you are making New Year's resolutions or have been inundated with requests to join detoxes, cleanses, or intense workout programs to “get back on track.” This is why I am not a big fan of New Year's resolutions. They usually mean restrictive diets and gyms packed to capacity for a few short weeks but, living a healthy lifestyle is much more than that. My goal for this year is to be nicer to myself and set simple goals outside of diet and exercise and I encourage you to join me in doing the same!Read More
I can’t believe its December already! How did that happen?! December means that holiday season is upon us bringing with it lots of parties and excess amounts of food and alcohol. A lot of people treat the holiday season as a time to “go off the rails” and studies show that the average person gains between 1-5 pounds during the winter holidays! If you are going to be travelling over the holidays, be sure to check out my post of how to stay healthy while travelling here as some of those tips will overlap as staying on track is all about planning ahead!Read More
I get the question a lot from my clients about what they should be eating for healthy snacks. When creating meal plans, I usually (depending on the goals; digestion state and many other factors relating to the client) add in two snacks a day in between meals in order to balance blood sugar, keep hunger at bay and aid in weight loss (yes, eating more often can aid in weight loss). The most important thing to remember about snacking is being prepared. It is one thing for me to tell my clients to eat every 2-3 hours but without knowing what to eat, this can lead to reaching for the candy bowl mid afternoon. If you prepare snacks, like you would prepare your meals, this will lead to better success and less cravings.Read More

I get questions about organic foods all the time and since this week is organic week, I wanted to share some tips on organic foods. Do you need to buy organic? Why do you need to buy organic? I have always had a big sweet tooth. As a kid I was always reaching for some form of candy or chocolate. I would tell my parents I had a separate stomach just for dessert even when I was already full after dinner. Kicking the sugar habit is hard, and trust me, I totally get it. It’s sweet, delicious and it gives our bodies a natural high. It took me years to teach my body not to rely on sugar and stop my cravings, but sometimes my sweet tooth comes back and hits me like a ton of bricks. In an ideal world, we would only get sugars from whole foods like fruit, but if you like dessert as much as I do, that is sometimes unrealistic. That’s why I recommend using natural sweeteners in moderation. Though sugar is sugar, natural sugars (see list below) are easier for your body to digest and do not spike your blood sugar as easily.Read More
